L. L.  My FSH level has gone from 16.3 to 8.7!

With 14 years of infertility, we had all but given up.  Having endured numerous treatments, all ending in failure, I searched for alternatives.  I found the acupuncture and herb clinic and decided it was worth a try.  I noticed a difference in the way I felt almost immediately .  My FSH level has gone from 16.3 to 8.7 and we continue to try - now with some hope than ever.  I was skeptical initially, but have become a believer!

E.F. Acupuncture benefits remarkably for tendonitis and stress.

When I developed tendonitis in one arm, I suffered through it for several months because I knew a trip to the doctor would end in surgery or other treatments that would jeopardize my career as a writer. But when I developed tendonitis in the other arm, I had to do something, and quick. After talking with several people who I knew to be open-minded about holistic health and non-traditional treatments, I repeatedly heard that acupuncture was worth a shot. Several people told me to "go to the acupuncture place by the wig shop on Shepherd," which I then learned on the internet has a second location just a few blocks from my home near the Texas Medical Center. After the first treatment, I could tell a remarkable difference. Every-other-day acupuncture for 10 days completely changed my circumstances, and I have been 95% pain-free for weeks. I still have periodic acupuncture for the incredible relaxation benefits.

What is Acupuncture?
The technique of Acupuncture involves treatment through the insertion of fine needles or the application of heat at bone spurs acupunctureprecisely identified point of the body. For thousand of years, Acupuncture has been used by the Chinese and others to restore health when they are ill, and to maintain it when they are well.

To them, this form of treatment is natural and sensible. As western people learn more about Acupuncture, it holds increasing interest as a means of health care.

Acupuncture is one part of the larger tradition of Chinese medicine, a tradition including Herbal medicine and Meditation as well. Over thousands of years, the Chinese have systematically observed patterns in the body's functioning, and have noted their relationship to disease. Out of these studies has developed a system of treatments based on the intent to restore the body to its natural balance.

How does Acupuncture help?

Essential to Chinese Medicine is the idea that the body possesses very capable self-healing capacities. As living beings, we are full of vital energy, energy that continuously rebalances and regenerates from within.

There is a theory known as the Yin-Yang, which is the theory of balance between the opposite forces of energy, the negative and positive. The orderly distribution and flow of this energy is what keeps us in health. In a real sense, the body "knows" how to heal itself, and does so continuously as long as the proper flow of energy exists. Depletion or stagnation of that energy results in disease.

The Oriental Medical Arts treat disease not only to relieve the symptoms but also to treat the whole body. Chinese Medicine treats disease by adjusting and restoring the flow of energy. This is accomplished through the techniques of Acupuncture, Chinese Herbal Medicine and Meditation. The practitioner of Chinese Medicine does not attack disease directly, as does the Western doctor. Instead, the practitioner mobilizes the body's own healing capacity to cope with its ailments, thus supporting the body in healing itself. In this sense, Chinese Medicine is a holistic approach to treatment.

Does Acupuncture hurt?
The points chosen for insertion vary in their sensitivity. Most of time, acupuncture is virtually pain-free. Some sensation usually accompanies the insertion of the needles. Treatment by Acupuncture is safe, and has few minor side effects. Minor tingling or burning sensation sometimes occurs. In general, the patient will have a feeling of comfort.

Is it safe and effective?
Yes. In fact, a U.S. Federal Drug Administration (FDA) ruling indicated that acupuncture is a safe and effective medical treatment. In addition, it is supported throughout the world by the World Health Organization (WHO) and National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Houston Acupuncture Are the needles sterilized and disposable?
We use only brand-new pre-sterilized, one time use disposable needles. Acupuncture needles are very thin, rounded, and do not damage tissue the way hypodermic needles does. Our clinic uses the finest quality needles in the world. They are FDA registered, sterilized, and have expiration dates. We dispose of all needles properly after each use. We disinfect our treatment room, use clean linen, and use gloves and masks as needed to assure the highest level of sanitation and patient safety. Our Acupuncturists are licensed masters who have seen thousands of patients, and trained by master instructors in the Orient. You will feel safe at Houston Acupuncture and Herb LP.

How are acupuncture points chosen?
Acupuncture points are specific sites on the body, which are used to rebalance energy. Most points lie along paths of regular energy flow within the body. Several thousands such points have been identified. For treatment of a given problem, the practitioner chooses points with consideration of known benefits. In most cases, more than one point is stimulated.

Do you offer a weight loss program? Chinese Medicine
Our clinic has an excellent success rate for patients desiring to lose weight safely. Patients come for a series of acupuncture treatments, once a week. We will also prepare for you our "Diet Tea". This tea is a special formulation, created by our Master Herbologist. Its purpose is to help patients enhance the metabolism and decrease their appetite, while not causing fatigue or energy loss, headaches or diarrhea. Every week, we will modify and refill your tea formula.

The number of acupuncture treatments we recommend will depend on your condition. Acupuncture is used with our weight loss program to relax the points associated with over-eating addiction, enhance the immune system, balance the Qi channels, adjust the function of organ systems, and increase your willpower.

Most of our patients report effective weight loss.

After dealing with weight problems, many patients choose to use acupuncture and herbs to take care of other health difficulties, especially as they learn more about the practice of traditional Chinese Medicine, and become more in touch with their bodies.

Although we cannot guarantee your weight loss, we feel that our program is sensible and very supportive, and will give us the chance to establish the mutual respect and good feelings, which are essential for positive changes to be made.

quit smoking acupuncture houstonDo you offer a Stop Smoking Program?
Yes. Acupuncture has proven very effective in helping people to quit smoking. Our program consists of acupuncture treatments plus herbs. We insert needles in the body and ear. After each treatment, we may leave "seed needles" in one ear, and instruct the patient to press the seeds quite hard to relax the diaphragm and reduce the desire to smoke.

Frequently, with nervous smokers, we may recommend herbs to calm the mind.

While we do not guarantee your success, our percentage rate of smokers who quit and remain free of the addiction is quite high. Many people are able to greatly reduce or quit after only one treatment, but our experience is that it is very easy to pickup the habit again within a couple of weeks. This is why we recommend a minimum of three treatments, with herbs.

The first few days after the initial treatment are crucial to quitting. If the desire to smoke becomes unbearable during this period, we recommend you call us immediately for an appointment for acupuncture.

Excess coffee and alcohol play a part in the smoking addiction, and we recommend that smokers seriously consider cutting down or stopping this use also to facilitate their quitting to smoke.

Do you offer pediatric acupuncture treatments?
Yes, we offer acupuncture, herbal therapies, cupping, and moxibustion. Conditions treated include but are not limited to: teething pain, colic, headaches, frequent ear infections, digestive disorders, loss of appetite, asthma, allergies, sleep disorders, eczema, common cold and flu, attention deficit disorder, hyperactivity and more.

Electro-acupunctureWhat is electro-acupuncture?
Electro-acupuncture is a form of acupuncture that, relatively speaking, has recently come into use and is an increasingly popular form of treatment used by practitioners of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Some scholars believe electro-acupuncture was first used in the early 1800's by physicians in France and Italy. Others believe it started in the 1940's when Japanese scientists were interested in making bone fractures heal more quickly. Still, others claim that electro-acupuncture developed in 1958, when acupuncturists in China began to employ it as a form of pain relief.

migraine acupuncture houstonHow is electro-acupuncture and traditional acupuncture different?
Both are quite similar in that the same points are stimulated during treatment. As with traditional acupuncture, needles are inserted on specific points along the body. Using small clips, the needles are then attached to a device that generates minute electrical pulses. These electrical impulses are adjusted in frequency and intensity, depending on the condition being treated. One advantage of electro-acupuncture is that the current delivered through the needle stimulates a larger area than the needle itself.

What conditions are treated with electro-acupuncture?
Traditional Chinese Medicine teaches us that illness is caused when a person's Qi, or life force does not flow properly throughout the body. Electro-acupuncture is especially useful for conditions in which there is an accumulation of Qi, or in cases where the Qi is difficult to mobilize. Such conditions include chronic pain syndromes. Thus, electro-acupuncture is used as a form of pain reliever and muscle relaxant.

Will electro-acupuncture hurt?
Some people may experience a tingling sensation. However, in most cases, the tingling sensation will not be felt. There may be minor bruising or bleeding as a result of a needle hitting small blood vessels.

What risks do electro-acupuncture pose?

Patients who have a pacemaker or history of heart disease, strokes, seizures or epilepsy should not use electro-acupuncture. In addition, it should not be used on a patient's head or throat, or directly over the heart. Patients should make sure to discuss the potential risks and benefits with their practitioner.

What is Moxibustion?
Moxibustion has been used for 2000 years throughout Asia. The purpose of moxibustion is to strengthen the blood, stimulate the flow of Qi, and maintain general health. As an external treatment in acupuncture therapy, moxibustion uses moxa to apply heat to certain locations on the body to treat and prevent disease. This supports the healthy flow of blood and Qi by transmitting heat through the meridians and organs.

stress acupuncture houstonMoxibustion is suggested when acupuncture, herbal medicine, and medication fails to treat the disease. Moxa is the most commonly used material for moxibustion today because it is able to expel dampness and coldness through the meridian and replenishes Yin or Yang.

Moxibustion has been clinically tested and is a proven method for treating disease. Considerable effect has been made in treating hepatitis B and hypertenstion with moxibustion.

What is ear acupuncture (auriculo-acupuncture)?
Some of the earliest written accounts of auriculo-acupuncture (ear acupuncture) dates back to procedures practiced in 500 BC.

Auriculo-acupuncture, or ear acupuncture, is a traditional variation of acupuncture. It is a method of diagnosis and treatment using the ear as a localized map of bodily organs. Some of the meridian lines of energy flow connect to the ear acupunctureexternal ear, creating this map of a localized reflex system connected to the central nervous system. Auriculo-acupuncture treats and prevents disease by stimulating points on the outside of the ear with needles. A filiform needle is usually used. However, electric acupuncture, aqua acupuncture, intradermal needle therapy, seed embedding method and bleeding method are also utilized as needed. Careful sterilization is employed before and after the procedure to prevent infection. Having broad clinical applications, auricular acupuncture is used to treat painful diseases, inflammatory diseases, endocrine and metabolic diseases, allergy diseases, auricular acupuncture anesthesia, and in the cessation of addictions.

There are over 120 points on each ear for which specific parts of the body are related to. Therefore, it is thought that the ear is crossed by all the major meridians.

What is cupping?
In ancient times of China, cupping was another type of treatment used. The horn cup and the ceramic cup were used in this method. Today, a variation of cups are commonly used, such as those made from glass or bamboo.

anxiety acupuncture houstonThere are different methods to this treatment including fire cupping, water cupping, and air cupping. All methods create a partial vacuum over the affected area, or meridian, which has become congested. This causes increase blood flow and opens the meridians, enhancing Qi and promoting the healing process. Generally, the cup is left on the affected area for about 15 minutes or less until blood flow improves.

Even today, this method is still used due to it's effectiveness and because it is not invasive. Cupping is recommended for pain, cough, asthma, paralysis, and gastro-intestinal disorders to name a few.

What is Chinese Herbal Medicine?
Herbal medicine is an integral component of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Chinese herbal theory holds that an unhealthy body requires herbal and dietary treatments to restore and maintain this essential balance. Herbal medicine is made from natural plants and may contain a mixture thereof. Depending on the individual's condition, a better therapeutic treatment may combine acupuncture with herbal medicine.

high blood pressure acupuncture houstonWhat are the benefits of Chinese Herbs?
Traditional Chinese Medicine is based on the idea that the body naturally possesses a very capable, self-healing capacity. This ancient approach has achieved successful treatment of many ailments, eliminating the need for surgery and/or synthetic chemical intervention. Chinese herbal medicine promotes the body's natural system with fewer or much less severe side effects than the traditional Western approach. Unlike synthetic chemicals used in Western medicine, naturally occurring Chinese herbs can be taken long term with minimal or no adverse effects.

Why is our Herb Clinic different and better?
Our clinics use only the highest quality herbs available to mix the appropriate formulas specific for each patient's condition. As the patient's condition improves, we are able to adjust the formula accordingly. We are also able to meet patients' requests for either powder, capsules, or lose herb forms. Unlike most herb clinics, our patients can actually watch us prepare their herbal formula. All herbs are examined by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration upon import and meet U.S. Department of Agriculture standards.

back pain acupuncture houstonWhat can Chinese herbs do for me?
Chinese herbs can treat and heal acute and chronic conditions by strengthening the body and it's immune system, helping it to recover and restore its harmony. It is used to reduce side effects from invasive treatments, such as chemotherapy and antibiotics, and to rid the body of foreign invaders, such as bacteria, yeasts, and viruses - all of which weaken the body's ability to stay healthy. Chinese herbs may also be taken as a preventive medicine, just like eating a healthy diet, to stay healthy and slow aging.

What are the precautions when taking herbs?

Chinese herbal medicine is much more gentler and safer than traditional chemical drugs. However, like anything else you put into your body, you should be taking a certain amount of precaution. For example, certain herbs are too strong for pregnant women and may cause miscarriage. Certain foods can have adverse effects on the herbal therapy. Always seek the guidance of an experienced and knowledgeable Chinese medicine practitioner. Be sure to let them know what drugs and herbs you are currently taking and your specific conditions and ailments.

How are herbs chosen for each individual?
Houston Acupuncture and Herb, LP applies a number of very traditional methods in which signs and symptoms are observed and analyzed. Feeling the radial pulses on both wrists provides us with the equivalent of an ultrasonic reading of the internal organs. This requires extreme sensitivity and takes years to master. Close examination of the patient's tonguedr.jannie, dr. chiang color, body, coating, and moisture provides clearly visible clues to the patient's disharmony and is a reliable portrait of the organs. We always observe the patient's Shen (Mind) to determine the capacity for self-healing.

At the same time, physiognomy, the study of the face's coloration, puffiness under the eyes, deepness of lines, and other patterns reveal various organ functions. Other methods include listening to the voice, smelling, palpating the organs and channels, and talking with the patient to identify a pattern of disharmony, to ultimately identify the cause of the disease, thus allowing the practitioner and patient to work together to eliminate, control, or minimize the problem.

Do you offer Chinese herb treatment for children?
Yes. We offer acupuncture, herbal therapies, cupping, and moxibustion for children.
