			Testimonial
David, G.       Real lift testimony about
			weight loss acupuncture treatment
			       When my
neighbor and some of my close friends discussed the option of
acupuncture I was a bit skeptical. “ Needles and stuff on me, I
			don’t want to do that” was always my initial thought.  However;
going to the mall to purchase my last pair of “ Fat Jeans” I decided
enough was enough and I would give acupuncture a try to assist with
			my weight management journey.
Like I stated initially I went into this being a pessimist,
but let me tell you, 4 weeks later after following my recommended
regimen, I was 30 lbs lighter.  After the first week I had to take
by my fat jeans and go down 2 sizes.  Afterwards the weight just
			melted off.
I would recommend Houston Acupuncture and
Herb Clinic to anyone!  Try it once- it will make a believer out of
			you!

depression. Taking medications for depression for years. Due to the
depression, the patient created her eating disorder; there was
consumption of a lot of sweet foods, fast foods, and soft drinks.
Patient gained 30 pounds in a year.

8 pounds, with no diarrhea, or use of stimulant herbs. Patient felt

            In Chinese Medicine,
            overweight or obesity
is caused by deficiency of Qi and excess of damp phlegm. When the
calories taken are more than the body consumption, the extra
calories accumulate and turn into fat and are stored in the body.
As recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO), the standard
            weight = {body height (measured by centimeter) –100} x 0.9. There
are two ways to measure over weight/ obesity:
            1. Actual weight is 20% more than the standard weight,
            2. Body mass index ( BMI ) over 24.
Simple obesity includes genetic obesity, and acquired obesity which
is caused by overeating and no exercise.
Secondary obesity is causes by a hypothalamic disorder, pituitary
            disorder, or other hormonal disorders.
            Etiology and Pathogenesis
            of over weight
            Due to old age or
            genetics.
Over weight/obesity mainly related to the deficiency of Kidney Qi.
The age condition or congenital obesity causes the kidney Qi
deficiency. Kidney Qi is the root of the body system. When it is
weak, the Qi could not help much in the body’s transformation and
transportation process, therefore the retention of damp phlegm
increases, showing as symptoms like edema and weight gain.

            2. Due to overeating.
Overeating might damage the function of the spleen and stomach in
the transporting and transformation of food and water. Therefore it
results in damp phlegm – increased weight, obesity.

            3. Due to lack of exercise
Exercise plays an important role in the weight problem. Lack of
exercise for a long period of time will cause the deficiency of
spleen Qi. Spleen Qi deficiency will cause failure to distribute the
food Qi to muscle and causes damp phlegm- water retention and weight
            gain.

            4. Due to chronic diseases.
Chronic diseases could easily cause the deficiency of Qi, blood, Yin
and Yang. Qi and blood deficiency will cause the heat from Yin
deficiency and result in the circulation problems. Blood stasis
occurs and damp phlegm is produced, overweight / obesity shows up.
            5. Due to emotional
            stress.
In Chinese medicine each Zang Fu (organ) has it own emotion.
Excessive worry damages the lungs, excessive grief damages the
liver, over thinking and over eating damages the spleen, excessive
joyfulness damages the heart, excessive fear damages the kidneys.

When a patient has depression, anxiety or other emotional stress
will damage the spirits of Zang Fu, and then destroy the balanced
relations of the five-organ systems. Due to the emotional
obstruction, it results in overeating from stress and further
disables the transformation and transportation of body and food
            essence. Then obesity occurs.
